COVID-19 Positivity Rates Continue to Drop, Maryland at 6.2%, Montgomery at 7.86%

Tuesday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 13,709 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is a 0.4% increase from the 13,657 cases reported Monday.

Since the first case in March, 658 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of three deaths since Monday, according to the health department. The number of probable deaths is 40.

Montgomery County has seen more deaths due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 619 residents, the second-highest number in the state.

The positivity rate of 7.86%, reported Tuesday by the state health department, is the second-highest in the state, behind Prince George’s at 10.09%. The state calculates the positivity rate using the average rate for seven days. Montgomery County on Monday reported a positivity rate of 7% based on a rolling three-day average.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Tuesday morning, there have been 62,409 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 377 cases, or 0.6%, in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 2,851 Marylanders, 34 since Monday.

Currently, 742 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is three fewer than Monday. Of those patients, 284 are in intensive care, which is eight fewer than Monday.

There are fewer than one thousand Marylanders hospitalized with COVID-19 for the ninth day since April 9.

The state’s positivity rate remained below 7% for the fifth straight day. It is currently at 6.2%.

A total of 17,867 cases and 1,162 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
