Damascus Shakes Off Slow Start to Beat Seneca Valley 33-20

After scoring just seven points in the first half, Damascus bounced back in the second half to beat Seneca Valley, 33-20.

Led by running back Dillon Dunathan, the Swarmin’ Hornets scored four touchdowns in the second half. Dunathan accounted for two of those touchdowns, including a 70-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Sophomore running back Michael Cooley ran for a 39-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to ice the game for Damascus.

Seneca Valley quarterback Elijah Frazier put together a strong performance, finishing with three passing touchdowns. Wide receivers Raheem Mbaye and Taiwan Veney made a number of impressive catches in the first half as the Screaming Eagles jumped out to a 13-7 lead.

The Damascus defense clamped down on Seneca Valley’s passing attack in the second half, however, forcing consecutive three-and-outs in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead.

Damascus finishes the regular season at 8-1, while Seneca Valley drops to 6-3. Both teams are set to play in the first round of the county playoffs next week. Matchups have not been determined yet.
