Driver arrested after fleeing police and striking several vehicles in Germantown

A 19-year-old driver was charged with first-degree assault Monday after driving into multiple cars, including a marked police cruiser, and injuring a police officer.

The incident began around noon when officers spotted a reckless male driver in the area of Germantown Road and Crystal Rock, according to Montgomery County police officers.

The driver did not stop when police commanded him to. The driver continued on, striking a car, an off-duty volunteer fire rescue vehicle, and a marked police cruiser. The vehicle also attempted to back into an officer, who was on foot.

One officer was slightly injured while taking the man into custody. No bystanders were injured.

Following a short pursuit, officers were able to stop the driver, who was taken into custody in the arear of the MARC train station on Bowman Mill Road.

The driver was charged with four counts of first-degree assault and multiple traffic offenses.
