Fallen tree causes fire and power outages in Bethesda

Power outages, fires, and home damages plagued Bethesda on Sunday after significant storms pummeled the area.

Around 5 p.m. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a tree struck by lightning.

When MCFRS arrived at the scene at the 6300 block of Avalon Drive between Newburn Drive and Massachusetts Avenue, they found multiple power lines and a utility pole damaged.

According to Pete Piringer, a large tree fell onto the pole and wires before catching on fire.

This resulted in power outages throughout the neighborhood. No injuries have been reported.

According to Pepco, power was restored to the neighborhood by 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
