Five Things to Know for April 13 in Montgomery County

1. Shoppers and Masks: Montgomery County’s new health order requiring shoppers to wear a face covering at grocery stores, pharmacies, farmers markets, and big box stores starts today. Here are some ways to make masks at home.

2. MCPS Updates for Week Three: Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jack Smith sent a message to the community Thursday. In addition to information about the thirds week of online learning, the superintendent noted that the third quarter ends on Friday, April 17 and report cards will be mailed the week of April 27.

3. IRS Stimulus Payments: The IRS deposited the first Economic Impact Payments, or stimulus payments into taxpayers’ bank accounts Saturday. The payment will be made automatically for those who filed tax returns in 2018 and 2019. Tax filers may check their payment status and enter their direct deposit information online at the IRS economic impact payments webpage, by clicking the “Get My Payment (coming mid-April)” button. Anyone who did not file a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return whose gross income was under $12,200 ($24,400 for married couples) should enter an application for their stimulus payment online at the IRS economic impact payments webpage, by clicking the “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” button.

4. Town Hall with CM Tom Hucker: Join a virtual town hall hosted by Councilmember Tom Hucker tonight at 7 p.m. Hucker holds the meetings on Monday evenings with county residents to address their concerns about the novel coronavirus.

5. MoCo’s Got Talent: The deadline to enter the MoCo’s Got Talent contest is April 16. Film a one-minute video, share on Facebook and tag Montgomery County Recreation (@MoCoRec) to enter Montgomery County’s first-ever #stayhome virtual competition. Each like for your video counts as one vote. The competition is open to elementary school (grades K-5), middle school (grades 6-8), high school (grades 9-12), seniors (55 plus), and families.
