Former Republican Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan entered the race for Senate Friday. Hogan served as the Governor of Maryland from 2015 to 2023.

“I am running for the United States Senate – not to serve one party – but to stand up to both parties, fight for Maryland, and fix our nation’s broken politics,” Hogan wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Current Democrat Sen. Ben Cardin announced that he would not be seeking reelection in May of last year, leaving his seat open.

The critic of former President Donald Trump enters a packed 2024 race, including Congressman David Trone (D) and Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks (D). He will face 7 other Republican candidates in the May 14 primary.

Hogan is expected to file for the seat Friday, the deadline to enter the race.
