Gaithersburg Book Festival Hosting Virtual Diversity Discussion

The Gaithersburg Book Festival will host a live YouTube discussion about understanding diversity through literature on June 24 at 7 p.m.

The discussion, “How Diverse Stories Can Open Minds and Change the World,” will include four authors. Wade Hudson will moderate the discussion. Dhonielle Clayton, Adam Gidwitz and Hena Khan will also take part.

The four authors mainly write books for younger audiences, but the discussion is open to all ages. The discussion “is intended to foster a dialog about how parents can encourage a broader understanding of our world through their children’s book choices,” according to a Gaithersburg press release Tuesday.

“Our country’s struggle with race relations is once again at the forefront – as it should be,” Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman, who also founded the city’s book festival, said in the press release.

“Throughout history, literature has played a unique role in the fight for social justice,” Mayor Ashman added. To tune into the discussion, visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=peKm_9_qhj8.
