Montgomery County has a new police station to serve Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village.
On Monday, public safety and County leaders cut the ribbon in front of the station, which is on Paramount Park Drive near the intersection of I-270 and Watkins Mill Road, by the Royal Farms convenience store.
County Police Chief of Patrol Darren Francke said it is a “state-of-the-art facility.”
District 2 County Councilmember Marilyn Balcombe said, “This just really adds so much to the protection of our residents.”
The new 6th District station has investigative units, a large evidence room, and is the base for the central traffic unit. There are gathering rooms for officers and a community room.
The station can accommodate up to 178 staff and volunteers, according to the county.
“The county has been in the process of either renewing or opening up new stations, both here and in the fire department,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “We’re trying to make sure that things are in the right place at the time they are needed.”
“This is more than just a bricks and mortar promise,” said County Councilmember and Council Public Safety Chair Sidney Katz. “It was a promise that our residents deserve the very best in public safety — which they have, and our officers deserve a space where they can work.”
Also, the station is an energy-efficient building – building systems are fully electrified to align with the county’s carbon-neutral goals.
