Gaithersburg man charged with five felonies after alleged gun incident at restaurant

A 29-year-old-man is charged with five felonies and 10 misdemeanors after allegedly brandishing a handgun inside a Gaithersburg restaurant Sunday, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of an altercation at La Curvita Restaurant on East Diamond Avenue at around 2:29 a.m. on July 5 after a call was placed to the police department accusing a man, identified as Andres Melendez, 29, of trespassing while intimidating an employee, said police.

Melendez attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle when officers arrived, police say. Police were able to stop the vehicle and arrest the suspect. No injures were reported. 

According to the police, Melendez had more than $8,000 in cash and a stash of prescription narcotics with him in the vehicle. The handgun was recovered and reported as stolen. 

His bail is posted at $10,000.
