The canvassing is done and the Board of Elections will certify the results today, Wednesday, July 8.
Two tight primary races have been resolved. In the vote for Montgomery County council at-large, former school board president Karla Silvestre has won over her close competitor immigration attorney Fatmata Barrie. The margin of victory came in at 1,175 votes. Nearly 453 thousand ballots were cast to select the four primary candidates for November’s election.
In District 3 the margins were even tighter. Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman managed to defeat Rockville County Councilmember Izola Shaw by 343 votes in a race that counted 16,566 votes. Ashman will be the candidate for the county council seat in District 3 in the upcoming election.
