Gaithersburg Man Gets 5 Years in Prison For 2021 Fatal Fentanyl Overdose

Randolph Mosely

A Gaithersburg man was sentenced this week to serve five years in prison in the overdose death of a Rockville man in 2021, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Randolph Mosely, 45, pleaded guilty in March to involuntary manslaughter for the death of 27-year-old Andrew “Drew” Davis.

According to charging documents, Davis was found dead in his apartment on Key West Avenue in Rockville in February 2021. On a table in the apartment, police officers found four small blue pills in a tied-off plastic bag, a straw, and a credit card with blue powdery residue. Next to the credit card was blue powder.

Fentanyl

The pills were tested and found to have fentanyl. An autopsy determined Davis’ death was caused by mixed drug intoxication of fentanyl and oxycodone. Detectives were able to get into a cell phone that was next to his body. A Facebook chat and text conversation were found between Davis and someone believed to be Mosely.

According to MCSAO, detectives determined that Mosely sold Davis the pills in the overnight hours between Feb. 16-17, 2021.

“Fentanyl has claimed far too many lives,” County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said in a written statement. “Our hearts go out to the family of the victim in this case. Thanks to targeted community outreach efforts, our numbers in terms of fatal overdoses have finally begun to decline. We pledge to continue our work in educating young people about fentanyl and to vehemently prosecute any purveyor of death who chooses to deal this substance in our community.”

Speak Up, Save a Life

On a related note, MCSAO’s student “Speak Up, Save a Life” video contest is currently open for entries until Dec. 7. Sixth-12th graders in the county are challenged to create an original video to raise awareness among teens about dangers of illicit opioids, fentanyl, and overdose risk. See more about the contest here.
