Gaithersburg Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Attempted Murder

Jefferson Delgado, 29, of Gaithersburg, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday in Montgomery County Circuit Court.

The Gaithersburg man was found guilty of first-degree attempted murder for shooting a man on April 18, 2021 outside Antojitos restaurant on East Diamond Avenue Gaithersburg.

Delgado also was sentenced to five years of supervised probation following his release from prison.

He was found guilty March 30 and could have been sentenced to life in prison.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorneys Office, the shooting was prompted by an argument between two groups of people at the restaurant. The shooting occurred in the parking lot at 1:22 a.m. and was captured on surveillance footage.

Delgado retrieved a shotgun from a friend’s vehicle and opened fire at least twice, hitting the victim with two bullets, according to the state’s attorneys office. He then ran to a parking garage where he again was captured by a surveillance camera. In that video, he is seen trying to hide the weapon.

The victim survived.
