‘It’s Good To Be Home’: Rockville’s McCarthy Excited to Tee It Up at Avenel

PGA Tour golfer Denny McCarthy was born and bred in Montgomery County. He has lived in Takoma Park, Rockville and Burtonsville.

This week, he is teeing it up at the Wells Fargo Championship at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, less than 10 miles from his alma mater Georgetown Prep.

McCarthy, 29, is currrently ranked 157th in the World Golf Rankings but more importantly is 49th in the FedExCup standings. The top 125 qualify for the FedExCup playoffs. The top 70 finishers in the first FedExCup event advance to the next round followed by the top 30 who then qualify for the lucrative, season-ending Tour Championship. McCarthy says his game is in good shape and feels ready to take his game to the next level.

He talked to MyMCM on Tuesday about the quest to get his first career win and playing in a PGA Tour event in his home county.
