Welcome to MCM’s Weekend Roundup of entertainment in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, January 5-7.

Friday, January 5

Jungle Discovery: Imagination Stage in Bethesda presents this engaging and immersive interactive experience for children ages 3-6 and their adults. Participants enter a fantastical jungle world where they may dress up as exotic creatures and explore the beautiful flora and fauna. Experiences continue through Jan. 14. Tickets start at $19.50. ‘Four Stories’ Art Exhibit: Bethesda’s Gallery B presents the work of four local artists in this exhibit open through Jan. 14. The gallery is open Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free. Gallery B is located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E. For more information on the exhibit, click here.

Multimedia Art Show: The Rockville Art League Winter exhibit is on display at the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery through Friday, Jan. 12. Glenview Mansion is located at the Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Dr. The mansion is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed from 1 to 2 p.m. daily. Saturday, January 6

Sportrock Rio Grand Opening: Sportrock Rio is throwing a grand opening party free for both members and non-members on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sportrock Rio is a 50,000 sq ft. climbing gym located on the top two floors of the flagship space at the Rio Lakefront Shopping Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Kensington Parkrun: Looking for a way to increase your activity and meet some new neighbors? Kensington parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event that takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m. This is entirely organized by volunteers, email kensington@parkrun.com to help. Before attending first parkrun, one must register here.

Family Nature Art Activity: Explore Wheaton Regional Park with a Brookside Nature Center Naturalist, collect items and then turn them into an artisitic masterpiece. Saturday, Jan 6 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Appropriate for ages 6 and up. Fee is $7. For more information and to register, click here. Sunday, January 7

Summer Camp Fairs: Montgomery County Recreation Department is hosting two summer camp fairs in January on Sunday, Jan. 7 and 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. At the fairs, families will have the chance to meet recreation staff, talk with instructors, learn about financial aid, and participate in games and activities. Registration for county summer camp programs will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Today’s camp is held at the Nancy H. Dacek North Potomac Community Recreation Center, located at 13850 Travilah Road in Rockville.

County Recreation Hosting 2 Summer Camp Fairs

Takoma Park Farmers Market: The market operates every Sunday year-round from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. located in the parking lot behind the shops on Laurel Avenue next to Truist Bank. Fresh local produce, breads, pasture raised meats, artisan cheese, eggs, baked goods and more from farms are featured each week at the marked. LuminoCity Light Festival:  Explore three different themed spaces in this outdoor, holiday-themed light show suitable for the entire family.  The event lasts approximately 90 minutes and continues through Jan. 15, 2024. Tickets start at $20. The festival takes place at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fairgrounds, 501 Perry Parkway in Gaithersburg. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
