Judge Grants Mistrial in Case of Pentagon Officer Who Killed 2 Men

Shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, Judge Mike Mason granted a mistrial in the double murder trial of David Dixon, the Pentagon Police Officer who was off-duty and out of jurisdiction in Montgomery County on April 7, 2021, when he approached a vehicle that he felt was suspicious and ended up firing five shots at it, killing two men. The shootings took place outside an apartment complex in Takoma Park.
The jury went out at 4 p.m. Thursday but was deadlocked Friday leading to the mistrial.
According to a spokesperson for States Attorney John McCarthy, the State will re-try the case. McCarthy’s team will meet with the Administrative Judge next week to select new trial dates.
The defendant remains held without bond in both this case and an unrelated assault case.
