The Shooting
Prosecutors said the body of Delondre Sawyer, 35 was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a wooded area along Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg on Feb. 8, 2024. Evidence presented at trial showed that the victim and multiple defendants met earlier at an apartment in Germantown.

Additional evidence showed that Brown was the shooter. One co-defendant asked Sawyer to drive them to another location. While the victim was driving, Brown sat in the rear passenger seat behind Sawyer and shot the victim in the back of his head. Sawyer’s body was discarded in the woods. There were three other people, including Brown, inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting, according to prosecutors.
Sawyer’s vehicle was later seen on surveillance footage at a gas station in Gaithersburg and was eventually recovered by police in Germantown. Brown was present when the car was found, said prosecutors. The state’s attorney also said the defendants stole credit cards and a backpack from Sawyer.
The Co-defendants
