Man Found Guilty in Shooting, Altercation at Clyde’s Restaurant

A man was found guilty in a 2022 altercation and shooting at the Clyde’s of Chevy Chase restaurant.

David Lee Brown III, 29, of Washington D.C., was convicted Wednesday for attempted voluntary manslaughter, first-degree assault and use of a handgun, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).

He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 20 and faces up to 55 years in prison.

According to MCSAO, an altercation between Brown and a woman began Nov. 14, 2022 at the restaurant. People came to the woman’s defense and a physical altercation started.

Brown pistol-whipped a male victim, and shot a man. The shooting was outside, according to MCSAO, but the fight continued inside, “sending employees running for cover.”

Police previously said that victims were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In a written statement, Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said, “This was a violent act at popular establishment that placed people in danger, including innocent bystanders. We thank Montgomery County Police for their work leading to the arrest and commend Assistant State’s Attorneys Mary Herdman and John Lalos for handling the prosecution of this defendant.”
