A man has been sentenced to prison for killing his wife in 2021.

Reginald Dunlap, 45, of Silver Spring, was sentenced in circuit court Friday to serve 55 years as well as five years of supervised probation after release, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).

In 2021, the Montgomery County Police Department stated Dunlap, of the 11600 block of College View Drive in the North Kensington/Wheaton area, was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, 40-year-old Lauren Charles.

He was found guilty of first-degree murder in March.

According to MCSAO, Charles’ body was found inside the couple’s home in March 2021. She was asphyxiated from a pillowcase forced down her throat and was beaten to death.

The murder weapon is believed to have been a decorative Buddha statue. After the killing, Dunlap poured bleach on his wife’s body and “ransacked” the bedroom to stage a crime scene, according to MCSAO.
