A man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 110 years for a 2021 murder at a Silver Spring apartment complex, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).

Tremayne Dorsey, 44, of an unknown address, was sentenced Friday in Montgomery County Circuit Court, per MCSAO.

“We commend Judge Maloney for this sentence which sends an incredibly strong message to the community that anyone who commits such despicable acts of violence will be held accountable,” Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said in a written statement.

In January, a jury found Dorsey guilty of first-degree murder, felony murder, home invasion, counts of first-degree assault and counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

According to MCSAO, Dorsey forced his way into an apartment around the 12300 block of Treetop Drive and shot and killed 39-year-old James Beverly on Nov. 30, 2021.

Beverly’s family members were inside the unit just feet away. Dorsey also assaulted two women and police found him almost one month later in Virginia.

The victims knew Dorsey, according to MCSAO. He previously stayed at the home with them and had a falling out.
