A man was shot by a police officer Tuesday afternoon after reportedly firing a weapon at officers in Montgomery Village, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
Officers responded to a report of a person with a firearm in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle. During the encounter, the individual fired a weapon in the direction of officers, police said .
An officer then fired their department-issued weapon, striking the man, police said.
Officers provided medical aid at the scene until Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived. The man was transported to a hospital with injuries described by police as serious, but not believed to be life-threatening.
No officers were injured.

A firearm was recovered at the scene and taken in as evidence, police said.
Per department policy, the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The case is being reviewed following standard procedures for officer-involved shootings.
Police have not released the man’s identity. Additional details have not been made public as the investigation continues.
