Friday, May 3

Indian Dance Performance:  The Mayur Dance Company will perform classical Indian dances from the Odissi tradition. The performance takes place Friday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Takoma Park Community Center. Free. For more information, click here. Takoma Park Community Center is located at 7500 Maple Avenue.

Park in the Dark: Explore what happens at Wheaton Regional Park after dark Friday at Brookside Nature Center. This series of events features a different theme each month. Program begins at 7:45 p.m. Admission is $7 and registration is required. The Brookside Nature Center is located at 1400 Glenallan Avenue in Wheaton.

May Art Exhibit: Artists & Makers Studios hosts ‘Creative Convergence’ and a book signing of Art From Your Core by artist Kate Kretz. ‘Creative Convergence’ includes work from five artists. The opening reception takes place Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and the exhibit continues through May 29. Artists & Makers Studios are located at 11810 Parklawn Drive, Suite 210 in Rockville. Saturday, May 4

USG Spring Open House: The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) will hold a spring open house Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. USG is part of the University System of Maryland and offers approximately 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs from nine different state universities on the Rockville campus. For more information and to register, click here. The open house will be held at the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Facility located at 9631 Gudelsky Drive in Rockville.

Be Your Best Fest: Casey Community Center invites all to this family friendly event. There will be performances, games, activities, information tables, crafts, and giveaways Saturday, May 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. Free, held rain or shine. 12th Annual Rockville Arts Festival: VisArts’ 12th Annual Rockville Arts Festival will be held Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Rockville Town Square (rain or shine). Onsite parking is free for the first two hours. Shop and stroll the outdoor festival and artisan market featuring original art by 130 fine artists, artisanal goods, a fun community art project, ceramics wheel and paper craft demonstrations, food trucks, craft beer, and wine. Sunday, May 5

Cinco de Mayo: Long Branch is celebrating Cinco de Mayo with a weekend of music, dancing, and margaritas. A live traveling mariachi band performs Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Find more information here.

Everyday is Earth Day: Brookside Gardens hosts this event focused on children ages 2-14 on Sunday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children will explore the science and art of sustainability through child driven projects, plantings, and activities. Registration encouraged but not required. Free. Brookside Gardens is located at 1800 Glenallan Avenue in Wheaton.

Brookside Gardens Hosting ‘Every Day is Earth Day’ Youth Event

Odissi Dance Performance: Learn about the history and cultural context of the ancient classical form of Indian dance known as Odissi.  The Mayur Dance Company will perform and then teach the audience the Odissi moves and poses.
