Mother, Baby Girl Doing Well After ‘Very Unexpected’ Delivery on I-270

A mother and her newborn daughter are doing well after the baby was born along I-270 early Friday, according to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center.

Alexa Almonte and her daughter, Valentina, were resting comfortably at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center following the delivery, according to a release Friday from the hospital.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to the scene of the birth on southbound I-270 between Route 121 and near Route 27/Ridge Road around 2 a.m., according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Almonte said it was a very unexpected delivery that came only 30 minutes after she experienced signs she may be in labor, according to the hospital.

“God was very intentional in how he picked her to come,” Almonte said in the release. She takes it as a sign her daughter will stay strong and exceptional.

The baby weighs 7 pounds and 15 ounces, and measures 21 inches long.
