Neighbors Share Heartbreak After 7-Year-Old Dies Following Bus Stop Crash  

7-year-old ​​Muhammad Haekal Saifullah Elsyaf died after a driver struck him at his school bus stop Wednesday morning in Bethesda.

He was a first-grader at Ashburton Elementary School. A small memorial was created at the site of the tragedy at Grosvenor Lane and King Charles Way. On Friday, residents in the neighborhood expressed their heartbreak for the boy’s family.

The child was waiting for his school bus with his father and 18-month-old brother, according to the Montgomery County Police Department. The father sufffered minor injuries. The toddler was uninjured. The adult driver did not sustain any injuries. The 7-year-old was in critical condition before he died Thursday. 

Police say detectives continue to investigate the incident. Should charges be filed against the driver, it will be done after the investigation is complete and in consultation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney.
