Figures released in the latest report from the U.S. Census slightly update the statistical portrait of the county. What follows are some quick facts.
Population
The county continues to grow. As of July 1, 2024, we added 20,000 residents over the count in 2020. The new number comes to 1,082,273.
In the category Age and Sex, female persons form the majority with 51.3% of the population. The county reflects the state, where females have an even larger share, 51.4%
Race
When it comes to race, the county mirrors the rest of the state in most categories. The exceptions are Black alone residents who make up 20.9% of the county compared with 31.6% of the rest of the state.
Montgomery County claims a larger percentage of Hispanic or Latino citizens with 21.1%. The state of Maryland’s equals 12.6%.
Households
Many Marylanders enjoy their own homes; statewide it’s 67.5% with the county only slightly below that at 65.3%. With 387,881 households, most residents here share living quarters with less than 3 other people.
In 42.5% of county homes. a language other than English is spoken; statewide that number comes in much lower at 20.6%.
Miscellaneous
Roughly one tenth of Maryland veterans live in the county at 33,000 plus. And the county is home to 33.4% of foreign-born persons. The state average is 16.3%.
