Welcome to our Weekend Roundup of events in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, October 6-8.

Friday, October 6

Krafty Kids: At the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg, parents and children at least 2 years 6 months old but less than 6 years are invited to create art based on a story. The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Friday in October. Admission is $10. Register here.

Fishing with the Lil Ones: Kids 3 to 6 years old are also welcome to fish at Little Seneca Lake Friday at 10 a.m. as a part of Black Hill Nature Programs. Poles and bait are provided with a $7 admission fee. Register here.

Park in the Dark: Explore what happens at Wheaton Regional Park after dark Friday at Brookside Nature Center. The event features a different theme each month, so returning guests will have more to learn this week. Admission is $7 and registration is required.

Saturday, October 7

Freshfarm Market: The Downtown Silver Spring market operates every Saturday year-round with over 45 farmers and producers. The market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is located on Veterans Plaza at 1 Veterans Place. Apples, carrots, kale, pears, pumpkins and winter squash are currently in season. 2023 Harvest Festival: The annual festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood. The festival features scarecrow building, pumpkin painting, candle making, and hayrides. Admission is $20 per car. The park is located at 18400 Muncaster Road.

29th Annual Montgomery Parks Harvest Festival Takes Place Saturday

Taste of Bethesda: After three years, this popular event returns to Bethesda with more than 25 restaurant vendors, five stages of live music, and a kid’s activity area. The festival takes place along Norfolk Avenue in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is free. Taste tickets can be purchased on site in bundles of four for $5. Bethesda UP has more information including the entertainment schedule and current list of participating restaurants.

Sunday, October 8

Pumpkin Festival: Butler’s Orchard has offered pumpkin picking fun for more than 40 years. Customers may pick their own pumpkin for .75 cents per pound or buy a pre-picked pumpkin. The annual Pumpkin Festival featrues hayrides, live music, corn hole games, mazes, and more from now through Oct. 29. Admission starts at $10 per person, register here. Butler’s Orchard is located in Germantown at 22222 Davis Mill Road.

Romanian Food Festival: Saint Andrew Romanian Orthodox Church organizes this festival every two years. The event features food and drinks, live music and folk dance performances, a marketplace with Romanian books, jewelry, icons, various activities for kids and a folk exhibit to learn about Romanian history, folk clothing, pottery and more. All the food is prepared by the members of Saint Andrew Church. The festival takes place from Oct. 6-8. Admission to the festival is free. The church is located at 9111 River Road in Potomac.

Families Outside: At the Croydon Creek Nature Center in Rockville, parents and children at least 3 years old are invited to spend time outside exploring nuts and seeds. The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6. Register here for the Nuts and Seeds class under the Families Outside series.
