Olney’s James Wood named MLB All-Star for second time

It all started on the Little League diamonds in Olney. Now, James Wood is headed back to baseball’s biggest midsummer stage. The Washington Nationals slugger has earned his second MLB All-Star selection as a reserve for the National League.

It has been a remarkable journey from local standout to one of the game’s brightest young stars. So far this season, the 23-year old Woods has 23 home runs and 56 runs batted in.

Wood was also a reserve for the Nationals in the 2025 All-Star game. He competed in the Home Run Derby, as well. This year’s All-Star game will take place July 14 in Philadelphia.

Wood grew up playing Little League baseball for the Olney Boys and Girls Club. He was drafted by San Diego in 2021 and then traded to the Nationals in 2022.
