Police: Juvenile Charged as Adult for Shoplifting, Ghost Gun Possession

Police said a juvenile male was arrested and charged as an adult for theft-related offenses and illegal possession of a ghost gun.

A ghost gun is a privately-manufactured firearm that is untraceable because it has no serial number, and can be built through a kit.

Police responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods in the 11100 block of Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton for a reported shoplifting last Tuesday, July 25 at about 12:57 p.m., per a release from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Officers arrived and saw suspects leaving the store with stolen goods. They followed the suspects to the Safeway in the 11200 block of Georgia Ave., according to police. Officers went into the Safeway and saw the suspects with the stolen items.

One suspect was arrested, according to police.

He was searched to reveal a loaded Polymer 80 9mm handgun with no serial number, MCPD stated.

Some stolen merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods was also recovered. MCPD stated that the juvenile male was taken to the county’s Central Processing Unit and charged as an adult.
