Police: Man Arrested After Openly Carrying Assault Rifle Around Germantown Neighborhood

Police said a Silver Spring man was arrested after openly carrying an assault rifle in Germantown.

Trevor Copeland, 30, of Silver Spring, has been charged with multiple firearms-related charges, according to a release Tuesday from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Officers received a report April 27 of someone walking around an apartment complex with an assault rifle and “knocking on random doors” in the 23000 block of Sweetgum Circle, according to police.

Officers arrived and made contact with Copeland on the third floor. He was apprehended after several minutes of communication, police said.

Copeland had a “Privately Manufactured Firearm (PMF) short-barreled assault rifle loaded with 300 black ammunition rounds, with one round in the chamber” in possession when he was taken into custody, according to police.

He was prohibited from firearms or ammunition possession, investigation determined. Police said he is being held without bond.
