Two hit-and-run fatalities over three days prompted investigations by detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit, The collision on Friday, June 19th, in Silver Spring, resulted in the death of 61-year-old Hanna Wegayehou.
At approximately 1:14 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Crestmoor Drive and Colesville Road for the report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The investigation revealed that Wegayehou was struck by a vehicle while crossing Crestmoor Drive. The driver failed to remain at the scene. Despite life-saving efforts, Wegayehou was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives ask for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle involved. The vehicle is described as a black SUV with tinted windows with possible front-end or right-front damage. It was last seen at approximately 1:17 p.m., heading north on Colesville Road towards New Hampshire Avenue.

On Wednesday, June 17th, a pedestrian, Brian Roy Longaberger, 56, of an unknown address, was struck by a car on Muddy Branch Road near West Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The next day, Josue David Carranza Castellon, 26, of no fixed address, was arrested at Newark International Airport in New Jersey> He was apprehended while trying to board a plane to Honduras, according to an MCPD press advisory on Friday.
Carranza Castellon is charged with manslaughter by vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death.
