Poolesville High School earned #1 status in the state for 2027 on Wednesday. Niche, a firm that evaluates and ranks schools to help students and families find the right placement, gave the award.
According to its website, Niche thoroughly examines schools through metrics like surveys of student and teacher satisfaction, academic performance, athletic participation and diversity.
Fair Access Committee Chair Link Hoewing wrote,”Our high school has always been a leader and now with our new building, we have the support and resources to help all of our students even more. I thank all of you in the county and state government who have been our partners and supporters. We value your leadership and commitment.”
Students walked into a fully restored school this September after a more than 40-year wait for renovations.
Other county schools ranked in the top 20 in the state. Potomac’s Churchill High School came in second. Three Bethesda schools got a nod: Walt Whitman #5, Walter Johnson #8, Bethesda-Chevy Chase #9. Rockville’s Wootton High School ranked at #16. Montgomery Blair in Silver Spring came in at #18, followed by Rockville’s Richard Montgomery #19.
With eight high schools ranked in the top 20, the county dominated the state of Maryland list.
