Potomac Native Rachel Nichols to Host Show for Monumental Sports Network

Montgomery County native Rachel Nichols will be headlining a show for the newly branded Monumental Sports Network it was announced Wednesday.

Nichols, who grew up in Potomac and graduated from Churchill High School, told MCM “this will be an interview show, featuring a wide range of people in the DC area. Sometimes we’ll talk to players from the multiple teams Monumental owns, so fans can get to know them better, but we also want to branch out and talk to politicians, local celebrities – all the people who make DC, well, DC. There’s no other place in the country quite like the Washington area, and we want to capture that with this show.”

“It’s so cool to get this opportunity in the place I grew up, and at a company clearly investing in the fan experience while so many other regional stations are pulling back. I have worked with a number of folks (Mike Breen, Matt Barnes to name a couple) who balance both a national media job with work for their hometown network, and I’ve seen the joy they get from being part of the community again. I’m excited to feel the same,” she added.

Nichols will continue to work at Showtime Sports. Previously she worked at ESPN, CNN and The Washington Post covering all four major professional men’s sports leagues, tennis, college sports and the Olympics.

Nichols’ news show is just part of Monumental’s new programming and branding strategy announced Wednesday. The network, known as NBC Sports Washington until the official name change in September, airs Capitals, Wizards and Mystics games and related-programing.
