They have one of the more original nicknames in summer college baseball. Now, the Olney Cropdusters have their first ever Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League championship.
The Cropdusters recently topped usual league powerhouse Bethesda Big Train 11-3 in the decisive game 3 of their championship series in Olney.
“Bethesda has been a thorn in our side,” Olney coach Adam Leader said. “They are a team we try to be like so to beat them makes it extra special,” Leader added.
Olney native Brian Scott of the Cropdusters was named the Most Outstanding Player. Scott reached base in all three games, finishing 5-for-10 with four RBIs, two scored runs, two walks, and a stolen base.
“My goal is to get the players better and go back to college prepared to play,” Leader said. “As a team, we finally got to the place we wanted to be.”
