South Korea-based drug-making company Samsung Biologics‘ first U.S.-based manufacturing site will be in Rockville, an expansion that the Montgomery County Executive applauds.
County Executive Marc Elrich said Tuesday that it underscores the county’s position “as a global hub for life sciences and biotechnology.”
In a release, Samsung Biologics called it “a significant expansion of the company’s global footprint and its long-term commitment to the U.S. market.”
The company will acquire the campus from global biopharmaceutical company GSK for $280 million. It is expected to be finalized sometime next year.
Samsung Biologics will retain more than 500 current employees at the site.
Elrich called it “a big win for our local workforce.”
