A house in Montgomery County will offer a permanent home for eight senior men who experienced homelessness.
Interfaith Works launched “Lon’s House” on Thursday at 107 Fleet Street in Rockville, not far from the County Council and Executive Office buildings.
The home is named after Rev. Lincoln “Lon” Dring, the founder of what is now known as Interfaith Works. It serves as part of the nonprofit’s Shared Supportive Housing program.
As part of the program, residents — many of whom are seniors with disabilities who experienced homelessness — get 24-hour support and intensive case management services. Interfaith Works also maintains Becky’s House and Priscilla’s House for women.
Interfaith Works currently receives referrals from the county for potential residents at Lon’s House.
Just one week ago, leaders and community partners gathered in Rockville for a memorial service for 69 residents who died in the last year and had experienced homelessness.
According to a Point-in-Time count conducted in January, homelessness in Montgomery County rose 54% in the last year.
