Rockville to Collect Expired Prescription Drugs

Rockville City Police wants to help the community dispose of old pills and patches.

City police will run a drive-thru on April 28 where residents can drop off leftover and/or expired prescription drugs anonymously. Rockville is working with the Drug Enforcement Administration to coordinate the operation, which is part of national Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a convenient and responsible means of disposal, keeping prescription drugs from potentially polluting our drinking water, while educating the public about the potential for abuse or theft of these medications,” the city said.

At the last national collection, authorities collected over 10,500 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs in Maryland, the city said.

Officers will run the drive-thru at the Rockville City Police Station’s parking lot (2 W. Montgomery Ave.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Illicit drugs, liquids, needles, sharps or syringes will not be accepted.
