Ryan’s Place, a medical care practice for those with disabilities and their families, opened Wednesday in Gaithersburg.
A ribbon cutting was held at the facility on Beechcraft Avenue that uses an integrated approach tailored for developmentally disabled individuals and their families. It was founded by Debbie Sahlin and Greg Miller and funded, in part, through a Montgomery County Technology Innovation Fund grant.
“Opening this new center is personally fulfilling for me, as I’m taking my many years of training and expertise and applying it to this integrated program that truly helps people of all ages experience a better life. Each person and family have their own unique needs, and we are equipped to support their specific requirements,” said Chief Executive Officer Sahlin.
Sahlin saw the need for a health service for those with special needs after her son, Ryan, suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was young.
“Even though caring for Ryan over the years has not been easy, I realize I have been given the greatest gift – a teacher. Ryan has taught me so much – often without saying a word. He has shown me the depth of my strength and forced me to exhibit courage I did not know I possessed,” she wrote on the Ryan’s Place website.
