School Board Officially Ends Roscoe Nix’s Innovative Calendar Year

During budget discussions, Montgomery County Board of Education (BOE) members opted to switch Roscoe Nix Elementary School from an innovative full year school calendar to the tradition school calendar.

Thursday, they made it official, voting unanimously to begin the 2024-2025 school year at the end of August and finish the year on June 13.

Arcola Elementary School continues to participate in the innovative school calendar.

Innovative calendar schools have longer academic years and are intended to focus on social-emotional growth and hands-on enrichment.

In February, Board President Karla Silvestre said the Roscoe Nix change was made on behalf of families who told the board the longer schedule has strained the school community, partially due to the schedule not lining up with the sister school Cresthaven Elementary.
