Scott Van Pelt Named Host of Monday Night Countdown

Scott Van Pelt has been named the new host of Monday Night Countdown on ESPN. The show immediately precedes the weekly Monday Night Football game. The rest of the on-air team for the show includes former Commanders players Ryan Clark, Robert Griffin III and Alex Smith.

Van Pelt replaces Suzy Kolber who was part of ESPN’s layoffs. The show’s new lineup will debut on Sept. 11 prior to the Buffalo Bills at New York Jets game. The game will mark quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ first game as a member of the Jets.

Born in Brookeville, Van Pelt attended Flower Valley Elementary School in Rockville and Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring. He is a University of Maryland alum who unabashedly roots for his beloved Terps. He has worked at ESPN since 2001.

Van Pelt is part of the 2023 class of the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame. The class will be inducted on Oct. 29.
