FRIDAY, September 22

AFI Latin American Film Festival: In its 34th year, this film festival showcases Latin America cinema at Silver Spring’s AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center. Numerous international film festival favorites, award winners, local box office hits and debut works by promising new talents are featured. Find the list of shows and times here. General admission tickets are $15, festival passes are available.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar: Imagination Stage brings the popular children’s books by Eric Carle to life with shows from now through Oct. 22. The show is best for ages 3 to 8. Outdoor Movie Night:  The outdoor screening of Vivo takes place at Gaithersburg’s Concert Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. Lawn chairs/blankets and movie snacks are welcome. Vivo follows a one-of-kind kinkajou (aka a rainforest “honey bear”) who spends his days playing music to the crowds in a lively square with his beloved owner Andrés. SATURDAY, September 23

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown:  Adventure Theatre MTC opens their season with the musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The play based on the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz explores life’s big questions through the eyes of the Peanuts gang. Appropriate for all audiences. Runs now through Oct. 29 at Adventure Theatre, located in Glen Echo Park at 7300 MacArthur Boulevard. Tickets are available from $20. Butler’s Orchard Pumpkin Festival: The 43rd annual Pumpkin Festival starts Saturday and runs through Oct. 29. Tickets prices start at $10 per person and may be purchased online at Butler’s Orchard website. Making a reservation ahead of time is strongly encouraged, most weekends sell out. Butler’s Orchard is located in Germantown at 22222 Davis Mill Road

Poolesville Day:  The Town of Poolesville hosts the annual Poolesville Day for the public to enjoy a day in the charming township of approximately 6,000 residents. Festival highlights include the 5K charity run/walk, parade, arts and craft, food, live music, and amusement rides. There is also the largest electric vehicle car show on the East Coast and a classic car show. The festival takes place on Whalen Commons located at 19701 Fisher Avenue. SUNDAY, September 24

Not My Monkey:  InterAct Story Theatre presents this original play for children and families about cooperation and working together in one’s community. The show runs from now to Oct. 1. Tickets are $14.50 for adults ant $11.50 for children 4-11. Performances take place at the Cultural Arts Center-Montgomery College located at 7995 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Washington Grove UMC Fall Festival:  Washington Grove United Methodist Church presents their 5th annual Fall Arts & Crafts Festival Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival features the work of more than 30 artisans, pumpkin painting for the kids, live music, and food trucks. The church is located at 303 Chestnut Road in Washington Grove which is a town located near Gaithersburg. Find more information online.

Harvest Moon Festival:  The 10th annual Harvest Moon Festival, a free, multicultural event of arts, entertainment and exhibitors, promises fun for all ages in Silver Spring this Sunday, Sept. 24. Held in Veterans Plaza from 1 to 7 p.m., the event features an eclectic array of arts and crafts exhibitors and entertainment.
