Silver Spring Woman Charged with Leaving Children Alone in Hotel Room

A Silver Spring woman has been charged with neglecting her three young children who Rockville City Police said she left sleeping alone in a hotel.

Mary K. Galvin, 36, was charged with three counts of neglect of a minor and two counts of possessing controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia.

Police went to the Best Western Hotel on West Montgomery Avenue at 7 a.m. on March 23 after being contacted by hotel staff who noticed three children, ages 2, 6 and 11, were alone in a room with no parental supervision and drug paraphernalia near them.

Police then located the mother and a man asleep in a car in the hotel parking lot. Both appeared to be under the influence, according to police. The male was taken to the hospital for treatment, and the children currently are in the care of Montgomery County Child Protective Services.

Galvin was released on her own recognizance. Her trial is set for May 13 at Montgomery District Court in Rockville.
