Store Reporter: Longtime Potomac McDonald’s Saved by Petition

Residents made their voices heard when a longtime McDonald’s in Cabin John Village was expected to close at the end of the year. One online petition and more than 2,600 signatures later, the community staple McDonald’s is now expected to stay open.

MCM spoke with Cheryl Heimlich, who runs storereporter.com, about the story. She reported Nov. 9 that lease negotiations had been stalled between the shopping center’s owner and the McDonald’s local franchisee.

“I honestly cannot believe I am saying this, but I think the community pressure and the petition WORKED!!!!” owner Kari Swenson wrote on Facebook. “The landlord called and was eager to sign with us. We are staying open.”
