Teachers and union leaders rallied in Rockville last week to demand that the county council fully fund the public schools operating budget. Meanwhile, councilmembers are working to balance resources without increasing taxes.
The council is deliberating the county executive’s proposed budget, which does fully fund schools but has increases to both property tax and income tax. Councilmembers will vote on a final budget next month.
After the rally, attendants filed into the council building to make their voices heard during a budget public hearing.
