A woman was arrested after trespassing and assaulting school staff at a Wheaton elementary school where she used to work, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
Police said officers received reports Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. of a former Glen Haven Elementary School employee who had entered the building and assaulted staff members, prompting a lockdown lasting about an hour. There, officers found Nadine Akoko Sefako Dogbo, 27, of Gaithersburg, who tried to run off when confronted. MCPD took her into custody after a brief chase.
Dogbo was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with trespassing, two counts of second-degree assault, and additional charges related to disrupting the educational process, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
According to police, once Dogbo was arrested, the school was placed on a secure status until the incident was stabilized. No motive has been provided. Parents, students and teachers are being offered counseling. Glen Haven Principal Tara Strain sent a letter to families saying the school’s safety remains a top priority.
“I want to reassure our community that the safety of our students is our top priority. I will be working with our MCPS security team to investigate the incident and review all safety and security protocols with staff,” she wrote.
