‘We Were Literally Fighting For Our Lives’: Members of MCPD Share Memories from Jan. 6 Capitol Assault

Earlier this month, the nation marked the third anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

In the latest edition of the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) podcast, Voices of Service, two members of MCPD continue to share their experiences during the department’s response to the storming of the Capitol. Sergeant Lawrence Haley and Officer Willie Taft found themselves in the midst of unrelenting attack for five hours as members of an elite group of County police officers known as the Special Events Response Team (SERT).

Here is a portion of the podcast — from MCPDMedia — focused on January 6.

One Lieutenant from the SERT team still recuperates from a head injury he sustained when a rioter assaulted him with a chair. To watch the entire episode, including a look at some of the tactical gear used at the Capitol, click here.
