Work to Redo Rockville City’s Outdoor Pool Begins This Summer

Construction to revitalize the outside pool at Rockville Swim and Fitness Center is expected to begin in mid-August and be ready for swimmers in time for the 2025 swim season.

The outdoor recreation and pool area will be renovated and reconfigured. The project includes making the area more accessible and modernizing the amenities and infrastructure.

The outdoor recreation pool will close around Aug. 16 to allow for the work to get underway. The rest of the complex, including the outdoor fitness pool, indoor pools and fitness room, is expected to remain open throughout the construction phase.

City officials reached out to the community to see what they would like the renovations to include. Most of the people who replied said the layout leads to overcrowding, a lack of shade and long lines to get to slides.

They would like the new facility to include multiple slides designed for swimmers of differing ages and abilities, according to the report by Rockville City.

The above photo, which is included in the report, is a suggestion of what could be added to the pool. Go to www.rockvillemd.gov/rsfcrenovations for a layout of the proposed renovations, along with examples of the renovated pool’s amenities.
