It’s Monday, Aug. 10, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County

1. Municipal Monday:  Gaithersburg’s Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a work session. On the agenda is a discussion on the options for the next steps for Lakeforest Mall. The Kensington Town Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m.  Here is the agenda with the information to join the zoom meeting.

2. COVID-19 Testing:  Montgomery County is holding two testing clinics today from 8 a.m. to noon in Wheaton and Germantown. The Germantown clinic takes place at PlumGar Community Recreation Center, the Wheaton clinic takes place at Wheaton Library and Community Recreation Center.

3. Elder Abuse Workshop:  Learn the warning signs of elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation is this virtual workshop today from 11 a.m. to noon. Register with your library card online.

4. Picnic in the Park:  Montgomery Parks and Visit Montgomery recently introduced “Picnic in the Park”.  Local parks have a sign with a QR code to search nearby restaurants offering delivery to the park.

5. Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week Continues: Just in time for back-to-school shopping, Maryland offers a week of shopping free of the state sales tax. Click here for more details. The first day of school is just three weeks away, Monday, August 31.
