5 Things to Know for Labor Day in Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Sept. 4 and we can expect a sunny, hot day based on the weather forecast.

1. Labor Day: Labor Day is a federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September to recognize the contributions and achievements of workers.

2. What’s Closed:  Schools and most government offices are closed. Check this list.

3. Kensington Parade:  Kensington’s  Annual Labor Day Parade and Festival starts at 10 a.m.  The festival takes place along Armory Avenue.

4. Gaithersburg Parade:  The City of Gaithersburg and the Gaithersburg-Washington Grove Fire Department celebrate the 84th Annual Labor Day Parade today at 1 p.m. This year’s master of ceremonies is Larry Miller, morning news anchor and consumer investigative reporter for WUSA 9-TV.

5. Art Show:  The 52nd Annual Labor Day Art Show at Glen Echo takes place from noon to 6 p.m.
