Fights, Robberies Break Out Following Walter Johnson-B-CC Football Game

Multiple fights broke out, followed by calls for service in and around the Bethesda central business district Friday night. Most happened soon after the Walter Johnson at Bethesda-Chevy Chase football game ended, according to Montgomery County Police.

Many of the incidents involved assaults, thefts and robberies.

A video of a fight circulated on social media is believed to be B-CC students assaulting Walter Johnson students, according to police. This incident occurred by the Bethesda Metro, and several people reported there were injuries.

One Walter Johnson student went to police with a parent at 10 p.m. Friday to file a report that he was assaulted and his shoes stolen.

Other juveniles reported to police on Saturday that they had been assaulted.

Police are reviewing all incidents and calls from Friday night.

Councilmember Kate Stewart posted on social media that she was on a ride-along with officers when the game ended. “I witnessed the officers’ professionalism as they worked to try to keep everyone safe. I am deeply disturbed by the violent acts and thank @2dCommander  for their efforts and communication.”

Council Vice President Andrew Friedson posted that he was “deeply disturbed by the unacceptable events” that occurred after the football game.

Extra officers had been assigned to the area for the football game.

The game was sold out. Walter Johnson emerged victorious with a score of 21 – 14.
