Montgomery County Agricultural Fair: With just two days left for this year’s fair, the popular Demolition Derby returns for two shows Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Fair hours are 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday, with carnival hours noon to midnight both days. 3. Sobriety Checkpoint: The police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint tonight beginning at 10 p.m. at an undisclosed location.

4. Ice Cream Social: The 15th Annual Ice Cream Social takes place in the Park Potomac community Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. to benefit Interfaith Works backpack drive. If you are interested in helping struggling families afford back to school, direct online donations may on the MCPS Give Backpacks web page.

5. Financial Counseling:  Certified financial planners from six organizations will be at the Silver Spring Civic Center at Veterans Plaza from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 19 to provide free one-on-one financial coaching and workshops.

And One More Thing: Metro kicks off the new school year with their first Back-to-School celebration and School Supply Giveaway Saturday at the Fort Totten Station from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families across the DMV are invited to attend.
