5 things to know today, July 3, in Montgomery County

1. Heat Emergency Alert: Montgomery County is under a Heat Emergency Alert through 8 a.m. Monday, July 6. Ride On buses are free and can take people to the county’s six cooling centers. See more here

2. Fireworks Tonight: The county’s “Montgomery County 250th – Shine Together” celebration starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Einstein High School in Kensington. The start time is now 7:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. due to high temperatures. Fireworks start around 9:30 p.m. See more here

3. Fireworks Saturday:

  • The county’s “Germantown Glory” celebration starts at 7:30 p.m. at South Germantown Recreational Park. The start time is now 7:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. due to high temperatures. Fireworks start around 9:30 p.m. See more here
  • Rockville’s Independence Day celebration will be 7-10 p.m. at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park. Fireworks start around 9:15 p.m. See more here

4. Parades Saturday: 

  • Montgomery Village’s Independence Day parade and celebration starts at 10 a.m. The celebration after the parade is canceled due to heat. See more here
  • Kensington’s annual 4th of July bike parade starts at 10 a.m. See more here
  • CANCELED: Takoma Park’s 4th of July parade and street party are canceled due to extreme heat. See more here

5. SoberRide: On Saturday at 3 p.m., SoberRide will release a code for $15 off a Lyft ride home in Lyft’s D.C. coverage area valid from 4 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday.
